Project 1A Audio Dubbing

Instructions:

Watch the video: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Af7xN8eOxQJLpR3N9T6tTdHI9UyxKL41

List down each scene on spreadsheet and list out each sound effects for each scene.

Record dialogue with phone, search sound effects online.

Audio track:

  • 3 tracks for dialogue, one character one track.
  • 4 tracks for sound effects.
  • 3 tracks for ambience sound.

Progression

First, I list down each scene, each sound effects and ambience for each scene on the spreadsheet before I start with my audio recording and editing.

Fig.2.1 Spreadsheet

I record the dialogue using my phone and transfer the files to my laptop. Then, I edit the video with Premiere Pro.

Project 1B Sound Shaping

Instructions:

Record your own voice for 5 seconds for Exercise 2 submission using Adobe Audition:

  1. Voice of phone call.
  2. Voice coming from inside of closet.
  3. Voice of toilet/bathroom.
  4. Underground cave.
  5. Alien/ Orc voice.

Progression:

I record a 5 seconds audio with my phone with the dialogue: "Hello, excuse me? Is anyone there? Can you hear me?"

1. Voice of phone call

I import the audio, select and click on Effects > Filter and EQ > FFT Filter. Then, I choose Telephone - Voice Mail. I also adjust the dB as my original audio is too soft after adding the effects.

2. Voice coming inside of closet

I apply equalization to muffle the sound with Effects > Filter and EQ > Parametric Equalizer.

Fig.3.2 Closet progression 1

Then, I add reverb for room ambience with Effects > Reverb > Studio Reverb. I adjust the settings to mimic a small, enclosed space with 10% room size, 300ms decay, 80% early reflections, 30$ diffusion and 30% wet with 70% dry output level.

Fig.3.4 Closet progression 2

I also applied compression to control the dynamic with Multiband Compressor. I then go to Effects > Filter and EQ > FTT Filter to create a curve that stimulates sound being blocked by the closet. Lastly, I added a slight echo.

3. Voice of toilet/bathroom

First, I select the audio track and apply reverb with Effects > Reverb > Studio Reverb. I adjust the room size around 36%, decay 1000ms, early reflections about 65%, diffusion 55%, and 40% of wet output level.

Then, I go to Effects > Filter and EQ > Graphic Equalizer (10 Bands) to adjust the EQ to stimulate the frequencies that are emphasized in a tiled bathroom.

Fig.3.7 toilet progression 2

Lastly, I adjust a short delay time of 15ms in Effects > Delay and Echo > Delay.

4. Underground cave

I go to Effects > Reverb > Full Reverb. I adjust the settings with 3000m³ of room size for a large and spacious cave, 50% of dry output level, and 823ms diffusion.

Fig.3.9 Underground cave reverb

Additionally, I added echo of 400ms delay, 20% feedback, and 88% of echo level.

5. Alien/Orc voice

I start with tuning the pitch higher with Effects > Time and Pitch > Pitch Shifter. I set the semitones to a higher value of 5 for a high-pitched alien voice.

Then I added Effects > Modulation > Chorus. Voice of 4, delay time around 30ms, moderate depth, and 0.5Hz of modulation rate.

Lastly, I added echo and adjust the settings of reverb with 50% of room size, 400ms decay, 30% diffusion, and 50% damping.
